Caspar Mayer – Who can read this?

Posted on August 30, 2016 by Cheryl Biermann Hartley

Sometimes the record is there, but the technology won’t cooperate when you are uploading an image:

Who can read this?

Part of image still needing translation.

Have you tried a German genealogy Facebook page? Someone there could likely help.

      Linda,
Hi! Thanks. I actually posted these images here because a member of the Genealogy Translations Facebook group could not get good enough resolution with the images I posted on Facebook. I also used Imgur, but that didn’t solve the problem. I finally ended up with a partial translation, but I am hoping for more help, so I may try the German Genealogy Facebook Group next. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Cheryl, looking at the column “Eltern” = parents, january 14th 1701 two children were born. First is “Hanß (=Hanss = Hans) Caspar” whose parents are “Caspar Mayer et uxor” meaning “Caspar Mayer and wife” which is latin, not german.
The next four rows are very hard to read. They refer to a child which obviously is not of marital origin as the parents column is just talking of the mother “Magdalena born…”. That makes me think that these rows contain further information perhaps speculation about the father. I recognize the name “Christoph” not much more.

Uwe, thanks for your input! As an update, I found another source for the same information, which gives the mother’s name as Maria Magdalena Schmid. I would love to know what the record is saying about the child not being of marital origin!
